I’m thinking of buying a new or latest Onkyo model sometime soon with RCA 8channel inputs and RCA outputs or I might just use the HDMI. I’ve seen a lot going for cheap on ebay reconditioned. Like to get one that has THX select/ultra

i just bought a way lower model than this wich is the onkyo hts 5200 its supposed to be 7.1 but the hdmi is only pass through, as i am reading i notice that only hdmi gives 7.1, optical doesnt, does this mean that 2 of my surround speakers wont work if i use optical ? please help

@oooanthonyooo Thats because the receiver is taking the 5.1 signal and mixing into 7.1 using a dolby matrix however only hdmi can give a true original 7.1 signal that would give all 8 channels a discrete sound.

Can I have some help? I have 7.1 right now, WOW! Problem, I am getting a PS3 and It only has optical audio out, I need a 7.1 reciever optical imput, with 3.5mm outputs. Do you know how hard it is to find one of those? I'm not even sure this exists. I have been to countless electronics stores and done COUNTLESS searches. I am about to give up. Can anyone help or suggest a product?

Unless you have legacy technology what do you need optical and coaxial for except for your CD player or DAT machine. Everything is HDMI.
The WRAT amplfier stages in the Onkyo is better.
