actually whomever is using that garbage can is doing it wrong. from what i remember when i was there last year, plastic doesn't go in the burnable can. only paper materials and food waste go in burnables (because they don't pollute the environment). magazines go in a separate place, plastic bottles go in a separate place, cans go in a separate place, newspapers go in a separate place, and all other miscellaneous materials (including any plastic, such as wrappers etc.) go in non-burnables.
We recycle religiously at our house, but ours is one stage recycling. If I had to go through all that Japan does, I wouldn't recycle.

Is that really the way recycling works in Japan. I would have expected a methode more inovative that this.
