  • why don't the BBC release Top Of The Pops on DVD

  • I think it is mainly to do with music rights, some artists wn't allow their performance to be reshown. However I would of thought that the music companies would like the idea of more money coming in.

  • Mark Goodier appears very "square" in his early appearances.

  • Bourgeois Tagg - that's a great name for a pop group. And Nitro Deluxe too.

This must have been getting close to the end of Peter Powells' time presenting TOTP, and I think Mark Goodier's first appearance. Funny that Jenny Powell took over about the same time he finished. Vanessa Paradis was 15 years old at the time of this song.

(I think the date should be 25th February 1988).

  • Peter Powell ended his time on TOTP in September 1988, he returned for the 25 years Show in December 1988.

  • WTF?!?! Vanessa Paradis is edited out ... probably the most wood inducing 3 minutes for teenage boys throughout the nation on TV .... and we still have to watch Rick Astley?!

  • Damn this takes me back a few years!

  • memories of the 80's..truely a different time period. Things much simplier

  • I've been RickRoll'd!!

  • Mark Goodier was a proper cheesemonger in those days! Like a Harry Enfield character!

  • One of the best chart weeks ever! I love you 1988

  • The memories! I'd completely forgotten about that George Harrison song!

  • @HannyCheung hahaha well said.

  • Fascinating mixture of the soul-destroyingly evil & the enduringly innocent. My choices for those categories would be the S-A-W productions in the former category, and the late Mr. Cochran in the latter (I think the clip of 'C'mon Everybody' here is from an appearance on American Bandstand, '58, I guess). That show was hosted by another dead person's choice for Satan's earthly guise, namely Bill Hicks' nominee, Dick Clark. He also regarded Rick Astley Debbie Gibson & Tiffany as signs of the end.

  • Ha, Mark Goodier's the very definition of 'earnest' in this debut appearance. :D

  • This is great. A real memory jogger. I'm 16 again!

  • Argh! Rick Rolled!!
