The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have left thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of American soldiers deeply wounded psychologically. The shockingly high rate of suicide among returning veterans is truly a national shame. The wounds are worse that can't be seen, and these men and women are not gentle coming home. I wrote this song (with my good friend Steve MeckFessel) for them - and to change the way we reintegrate these brave soldiers into American society.
