I can't people people are ragging on this guy so much for the name of the song. He's not ripping off his lyrics or anything, he's writing a nice song about a musician that means a lot to a relationship. It's really not that big of a deal... He hasn't ripped Richman off and made a shitload of money out of it. Unless I've missed something, it's a simple song that he's posted on youtube. Don't like it, don't watch it.

....cool. Jonathan has a songs about The Velvet Underground and The Baltimores; the Replacements have a song called Alex Chilton; and Wesley Willis based his whole output on celebrity titled songs. Following in a long line of solid tradition.

I was gonna get into the arguments about this, but in the end I just wanna say I really like this song and it's a tribute to Jonathan whether or not intentional. I feel safe to say, Jonathan would love this.

@AJBeetle1 Kinda feel like I've made clear my problem. But I will explain more clearly. Everyone wants people to hear their music and see their videos. Most people have a basic set of ethics that prevents them from trying to fool people into seeing their work. This person lacks that ethical standard. He could be the best songwriter ever, he's still trying to get somewhere with someone else's name. I named my dog after Jonathan Richman, but I'm not using his name to promote myself.

I don't get what everyone's problem is, I think this song is really sweet, and this guy is obviously a big fan. HE's just singing about a time when he fell in love, I like it

You knew what you were doing in appropriating the name. The song's not bad, but you are an coniving asshole who isn't even honest enough to admit to his self-serving motives. What a dick.

@chris3ff: these comments in the past three months, telling you the song is bad, or that you're being opportunistic in titling the song "Jonathan Richman (A Song about Love)" ...? Ignore them. Great song. Great (poetic) conceit. The music and your style of singing puts me in mind of Niel Halstead (which I intend as a compliment). As it happens, I had a similar thing happen to me, although it was at the Bowery in NYC and not the Middle East in Cambridge. Anyway, great tune.

What a scam, I thought it was going to be a Jonathan Richman video.

This boy looks sad. It did not make me happy through osmosis.
-
Jonathan Richman would make you feel that way.
The second I realized this was not Jojo I hit stop. I agree that it's weak to put his name up there. It smacks of an opportunistic attempt to get hits with someone else's name. Some tribute. I'm a musician and my band has so-called homages all over youtube. But we don't try to ride coattails.

@hepstyle This wasn't meant to be a "tribute", nor am I riding anyone's coattails. This is a song about the first night I met a girl, and we went to a Jonathan Richman show together and he was singing a song whose lyrics were so appropriate and perfect, we were both floored. He was something we both had in common, and he was the reason we met at all.. which is why I named the song that way. Without him, we never would have known each other. Maybe next time, you shouldn't jump to conclusions.

at least change the title ... show some respect for jonathan richmond anyone who knows JR will take this as an insult

@iamkaokao at least spell his name right ... this song is written as a thanks and homage to him, it's anything but an insult. you, on the other hand, are a retard.
