Got this in a collection from someone who often recorded the syndicated Lawrence Welk show from channel 8 in Cleveland- during this one they let the tape keep running to the end and never taped over it, preserving the news for all eternity.

Newscenter 8 features Kathy Adams and Jim Finerty (who later moved to Sacramento and was on KCRA then KSCH during its first year on the air, but seems to have disappeared since then) sports with Fred Mcleod and weather with Mike Marlier. Top stories include a body found outside the Randal Park Mall (anyone know how this turned out?), a fire and some cool video footage of mall Christmas shopping, a live report from the airport which doesn't go too well due to technical problems.

Clip starts out with the last segment of Lawrence Welk where Santa Claus gives presents (courtesy of Mattel) to the kids of everyone on the show, and after the news you get part of the local "Public Square" news show.

Commercials here are: Serutan, Posh Puffs tissue, Wendy's (with their 70s theme I found a bit creepy), Lemon Fresh Joy with Bob McGrath from Sesame Street (now we know how he paid his bills!), Carpet Barn & Tile House, Downy fabric softener, Jif peanut butter (filmed at a Fry's supermarket) plus lots of Christmas-themed station promos.

  • Great slice of life! Cleveland was a lot more vibrant back then. No stories about economic decline or hardship. Nice that now you don't need to slice this into 10-minute pieces.

  • @gli7utubeo I've had this on Google Video for a few years (they don't take new uploads anymore) but hardly anyone's found it there.

During the basketball promo after the news, there's what appears to be a large screen up high in the arena showing the game that's being played. Anyone know exactly what that was? Didn't think that would be so easy to do in 1977.

  • @usa02

I think that was Mike Creagan with Susan Howard at 04:25, not Bob Franken!

  • "How To Maintain A Life of Brokenness and Humility"

In my personal study on "Brokenness and Humility", the Lord taught me five ways to keep an ongoing walk on the pathway of brokenness and humility. I hope and pray that this will be a blessing to you

  • Seeketh not her own - There is, perhaps, not a more striking or important expression in the New Testament than this; or one that more beautifully sets forth the nature and power of that love which is produced by true religion. Its evident meaning is, that it is not selfish; it does not seek its own happiness exclusively or mainly; it does not seek its own happiness to the injury of others. This expression
