I just got my hands on a FRG-7700. Great sounding Rx. Sounds better on AM than my Kenwood 690S too

Yeah it probably would but the 7700 has that bigger speaker already built in.

if you connect a bigger speaker to the Alinco it would sound sound good too
the alinco dx70 has a very fine reciever

The tone control on the Yaesu FT-767GX needs a bit more adjustment. Regardless, I run all my rigs through the same external speakers (with DSP) so all sound roughly similar. Since my hearing is quite accustomed to that sound, it's much easier to transition from one radio to the other. My FT-767GX drives those speaker very nicely.

great receiver. i did have the frg 8800, it looked very much like the frg 7700
