hi there my name is marcus i am trying to put freenas on my old window computer i do every thin u say and it is still not working
ps i do not no what is going on when i remove the cd from the cd drive it is not booting up with freenas
now i did opition 3 from the install menu and then every thing is fine and all but when i do every thing els then reboot there is no file or anything on computer
with out the cd it is not doing any thing please help
They forgot something.. Those home NAS box's use buzzy, unreliable fans and cheap tiny CPU's (I checked transfer rates on CNET's reviews). None of them go over 40mbit/s, so the giga stuff is just for marketing. (that's only 1/3 the speed of a DVD burn.. so I still can backup my rig faster than a cheap NAS).
I just did FreeNAS on a P733 Optiplex with 128meg and it saturated my 100meg LAN using an older (thin) Maxtor 20gig drive! I going to add another drive and see if soft-RAID slows it down...
