Performance Artist Laurie Anderson on War, Art and Her Latest Work, "Homeland"

We bring you a conversation with performance artist Laurie Anderson. Her highly unusual style has made her a well-known figure in the world of avant-garde and experimental art since the 1970s. Her latest performance is called "Homeland," held at the Lincoln Center in New York City this week. We speak with Laurie Anderson about "Homeland," her role as an artist and why she says she "lost [her] country" following the invasion of Iraq.

  • I love Laurie Anderson.

I wish she'd invite me over to dinner.

  • everything is vibration. without art, music, animals, etc... there would be no balance. change isn't something so superficial. it's deep. and i'm fairly certain that there's a lot more understanding and open-mindedness today because of art and music. i'm sorry if you're looking for an anvil; that's not how it works.

  • "she's performing homeland this wink at lincoln center" ha. speaking of which, i think i just accidentally did free-association writing while trying to write "it'll make the dogs feel more at home" in a text to my mother, i wrote "it'll make the dogs feel more important".

  • I happen to like this backdrop for DemocracyNOW[dot]org a lot better than the current CNN-emulating stuff with all the screens in the background. A nice inter-mix of two media people whose works I admire ... :-)

  • :)....

  • Is there a link to the full live performance of that first song?

  • @madsketcher You. You are the future. Thank you. I love you.

  • @KoroOutbreak me too! We would talk all night! :-)

  • A truly, truly, Human, She sees.

  • "...I realized what I lost was my country when we went to Iraq."

  • wrong as? I have listened to Laurie Anderson for 20 years. She would not vote for communists?
