  • Strabo

    Roman Historian

"The Thessalians in particular wore long robes, probably because they of all the Greeks lived in the most northerly and coldest region" [11.14.12].

As Macedonia is located north of Thessaly it is obviously not a part of Greece, nor the Macedonians were Greeks, for the most northerly Greeks were already the Thessalians.

  • Quintus Curtius Rufus

Roman Historian "Accordingly, one festive day, Alexander had a sumptuous banquet organized so that he could invite not only his principle friends among the Macedonians and Greeks but also the enemy nobility." [p.188] [Greeks and Macedonians clearly separated]

  • it seems like so many of them were homosexual and bi.

    What was up with that?

  • @UnaDrinaNeretva Well firstly the ancient Macedonians were NORTHERN GREEKS. The other Greek tribes in the South looked down on the Macedonians because they were a monarchy not a polis state, isolated in the north, and thus unable to participate in the progressive civilisation of other tribes further south. As such, the southern Greeks saw Macedonians as a largely insignificant backwater monarchy. DNA shows Modern Greeks are ancient Greeks and descendants of the Macedonians.
  • @HaggisMacfee but why did the ancient greeks looked down upon the ancient makedons? just like today ?!?! r u saying that modern greeks in greece are the exact same people as 2.300 years ago??!?!? 1.000 year of turks hasnt changed anything!?!?

2.500 years ago greeks looked down upon Makedons. today not much has changed. but claiming Alexander is greek whatever. the discussion will never end.

Actually Slavs only migrated into Eastern Europe

around Poland, by the 6th century AD. Centuries later Slavs who migrated into

the northern borders of Byzantine Macedonia

    were systematically deported and re-settled

in Asia Minor by the Byzantine Emperors.

  • @MacedonKin

Well long before the Macedonians spoke Koine,

they spoke a hybrid Aeolic/Doric Greek dialect

of the western Greek language. So Alexandros

    was Alexanders name before Koine.

  • @MacedonKin

    [Eugene N Borza 'Makedonika']

"On the matter of the Hellenic origins of the ancient

    Macedonians, Nicholas Hammonds general conclusion

that the origins of the Macedonians lies in the

pool of PROTO-GREEK speakers who migrated

out of the Pindus mountains during the Iron age

    is acceptable."

  • @MacedonKin

Actually, the ancient Macedonians, being Greek

and Greek speaking, had assimilated with the rest of the Greeks

at least 1500 years before Slavs drifted into the

Southern Balkans. Besides which the Slavs didn't mix with

anyone, since disparate ethnic groups were likely to

preserve their unique identity language and not assimilate.

Rather like the Welsh, Cornish, Scots, Manx in

Britain who in 2000 years didn't mix with the English.
