The lyrics to this song were written by the light of a Buzz Lightyear flashlight.

I know they tell you not to apologize for your work, because that shows weakness and a lack of confidence. So I won't apologize for this song. It's something that has been clawing at my insides for a couple of months now, and has only just made itself known clearly enough to spin itself into something beautiful, or if not beautiful, at least it's real, and it feels right. It all came together in about an hour late last night, something that hasn't happened with me and songwriting yet, and the fact that I was really happy with it after only the first draft made me think that it was something really special.

What I will apologize for is the video. It's very "first year of art school," which is a little embarrassing, but for this song I didn't think I could have pulled off a video like the one I did for my last upload, Tainted Love.

So here, without a hint of irony, is my music video for my new original song, "Flashlights."

Lyrics:
You were there before,
But I never felt before the day
You rushed in.
We said so many things
With our hearts tied up in strings.
Honey, where to begin?

We spoke of "love" and "forever",
You felt my pain,
We felt it together.

Flashlights,
Still around to guide my way.
Flashlights,
Still can't find the strength to say...

We found each other here,
And as the dark drew near we knew
This was our chance.
Now you've seen me up and down,
And you've tossed me to the ground.
But now I'm with your dance.

We were fools and we were blind.
I can't believe I let you
Kill me from the inside.

Flashlights,
Still around to guide my way.
Flashlights,
Still can't find the strength to say...

I've fallen towards the dark again,
And I've been toying with the notion
Of letting you back in.
Guess you'll have to wait and see.
For now, I'm picking up the pieces
In the dark of what's left of me.

Flashlights,
Still around to guide my way.
Flashlights,
Still can't find the strength to say...

Flashlights...
Flashlights...

  • Good one, Sara. Two thumbs up from me. I found the bookcase tour enlightening. I loved Good Omens - any book with a character named Anathema Device can't be bad.

  • Thanks :) I thought that bit would be a nice touch to the video.

  • Really pretty song, and for a "first year art school" video, it does sort of fit the mood - though I then ended up pulling myself out of said mood a bit because I had to pause and better check out your book collection when I recognized More Information Than You Required.

  • :) I was hoping someone would catch that. I didn't want the song and video to be TOTALLY depressing haha

    Thanks for the comment!

  • <3. I love it. It made me cry a little.

  • DIDN'T MEEEEEEAN TO MAKE YOU CRYYYYY... etc...

    Thanks Jacks. <333
