Adopt a wild orang-utan with WWF at.... http://adoptanorang.com ....and give back the man of the forest his home.

Orang-utans are now critically endangered. In fact, the species faces extinction in the next three decades if the current annual death rate increases by just 2%.

Orang-utans only survive on two islands Borneo and Sumatra. Over the last 20 years much of their rainforest home has been destroyed. And when the rainforest disappears, so do they.

WWF is working with the local people and governments to protect the remaining orang-utans and their natural habitat. A major milestone came in January 2007, when Borneos three national governments committed to protect 220,000 sq km of equatorial rainforest.

There is still much more to do. But you can make a real difference.

  • I wonder just how much of your donation is actually spent on saving animals and how much is sent to the wallet of some WWF executive.

    Anyone know?

  • @rangernitrostratos Thanks for your question - 61% of our income goes directly on conservation programmes; 28% is spent on the cost of generating funds but for every pound we spend on raising income nearly £4 is generated; and 10% goes on communicating and influencing. Just 1% is spent on admin, covering our governance and monitoring systems, which ensure we remain accountable. Julia at WWF

  • I just became a money doner for orangutans! I will give it to my mother on christmas eve, i've always loved animals and thought how cruel we humans are towards them, sp instead of just thinking about it and ignoring it i took action and you feel great for doing it. Because you know that somewhere you're making animals have a good life
