This is an opening solo in G similar to Eric Clapton's version of Reconsider Baby off the "from the Cradle" album. I like the flat-5 sound (4th fret, A string). The whole lick is demonstrated, and this video breaks down the first part. This lick is a little more advanced, so take you time with it.

  • Your lessons and teaching style are the best I have seen on the tube....I've been playing guitar for years but broke both my wrists, thumbs and several bones in my left hand and fingers in a bike accident....your lessons inspired me to drag out my 59 Tele out of the case and start all over again...after many months of pain and sweat I can hammer on, pull-off and string bend...my little finger was hurt badly but is starting to respond :).....Thanks for all your hard work and dedication ... Rick

  • Thanks for the nice compliment. I bet that 59 Tele is sweet, and worth a small fortune. I also have trouble with my playing hand: I had numbness in my middle, ring and little finger, so I could barely feel the strings when I played. The middle and ring finger have gotten much better, but the little finger is still pretty numb.

  • Hello ...what amp are you playing through and how do you get that kinda snap sound??

    Thanks

  • For that video, I was playing through a little Fender practice amp and used and Eric Clapton setting in Guitar Rig 3.0 for the pedal effects. I think it sounds pretty close to the record.

  • Great lesson! The fact that you play with your pinky should be enough of a "declaptonation" for those concerned.

  • Shouldn't we be trying to declaptonize the blues? It's not that Clapton is evil or can't play, it's just that his formulas are no longer particularly interesting and it is much better to go back and understand the creative ferment that produced the originals that he copied. You Tube helps make that possible, so go back and hear the originals and the other artists of that period.

  • excellent tutorials. well doen and keep em coming, thank you

  • You are a great guitar teacher !!!. I find your lessons very easy to understand and informative. Thank's so much for being on YouTube..Rock On !!!

  • The Tele has been through a few bar wars and is showing her age but sweet she is. I got her after watching Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks for a week at out local bar. I was still a teenager and Robbie Robertson wasn't that much older. He used to sit at our table and one evening after the gig he let me play his Tele. I was hooked and ordered one the next day . At the time I had a Gibson 175 ES D but was too young to appreciate its' great tone. A dear friend has it so I get visitation rights
