It's better to fight them over there than fight them over here.
Many only remember 9/11, but understand that far more attacks have been thwarted since then only by virtue of the fact that America has stayed engaged with those bastards. Multi-dimensional world-wide attacks are what have been undertaken against the western world. I'm afraid that this kind of mega-hatred of the West is way over the heads of simple minded pacifists trapped in the delusion that we are in another Vietnam.
In a July 31, 2007 interview with Fox News anchor Neil Cavuto, Rep. Boehner disclosed an aspect of a Federal Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) court's decision regarding warrantless wiretapping.
By telling a reporter that a FISA court has restricted the U.S. intelligence community's surveillance of suspected terrorists overseas, Rep. Boehner transmitted information relating to the national defense in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 793(d).
Lastly, this is worse than Vietnam. Vietnam's only long term casualty was US ego. The domino theory was wrong entirely. However, Iraq has made America more unpopular than ever, and it has made Bin Laden's goals a reality. He wanted us to invade an oilrich nation in the middle east, so we would get stuck in another quagmire that would rob us of life and money.
Second, the lesson of Vietnam was this. If we goto war we go with everything we have. Adding 10k troops to help quell a city of 8million is ridiculous. Third, this war was crafted by policymakers not by generals. Not out of necessity, but out of fear and agenda.
For one this debate is ridiculous, it is completely one sided. They all speak of an unrealistic victory that is simply unachievable. Iraq is more like Vietnam than any other conflict in American history. One it is a counter-insurgancy, and that is the hardest type of war to fight. You dont know who the enemy is, but they always know who you are.
Actually the Talaban has returned to Afghanistan, and Afghanistan is now the worlds largest producer of Opium for drugs in the world, under CIA controll. And as far as strategys go, you suck at them because "stay the course" means do the same stupid thing over again and expecting a diffrent result. That would be the text book definition of insanity.
First there was not 12 years of diplomacy there was 12 years of sanctions brought on by Bush Sr that led to a million Iraqi deaths. Second Bush Sr gave Saddam the wepons to gas his own people with. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIT. Kerry was right, the best is no permanent bases.
If you were scared of Iraq you are one hell of a pussy!!! The plight of the Iraqi people should be left to....? Iraq -just like I don't believe the plight of the American people should be left to another country. Reagan sold Iran arms, had our soldiers arm in arm with Saddam as he gassed and fought Iran and supported Osama bin Laden. It's time we mind our own business.
Some of us are still a bit upset about what happenned on 9/11 skye to be interested in freaking nation building. As you say, yes we are interested in going after terrorists. Your way is like the redcoats during the revolutionary war marching in order, facing an opponant that bobs and weaves and hides behind trees. Stuborn ignorance is not a strategy.
