The Chattahoochee Raft Race in Atlanta, Georgia in the 1970s was just about the coolest thing going. This film footage is over 30 years old and shows what it was like at the start of the race, rafting down the river and at the end. Two couples from middle Georgia built their stryofoam raft and camped over night at the launch area to run the great Chattahoochee!
Ha! Thanks for posting this. I have told people about this over the years and they always responded with a smirk of "sure it was". Now I can share ... some great memories from those days. Some great memories with some friends who are no longer around sadly.

This was sooooo much fun and this video was mild compared to the amount of people who were actually there every year. You could hardly see the river there were so many rafts of people.....This was truly the BEST years and the most fun of my life ( Before children that is ) I have told my kids about these days in the 70's and 80's and I am so glad that someone posted this video. Hopefully anyone else that has a video of any of the raft races will also share them. Thanks for sharing :)

Caused a tremendous amount of trash/garbage in the river. And I remember it being much more crowded with rafts and boats than in this video. It was always a blast to see as a kid from the bridge at 41 near Vinings.

Ah, yes, the Ramblin' Raft Race. Eventually it got too big for its own good and WQXI had to put a stop to it--invariably in its later years someone would fall off and drown. Story of the '70s--something goes too far and the whole thing gets called off instead of figuring out how to do it right, and by the time they figure it out no one cares any more...
