http://www.trusera.com/health/collections/autism Our 16-year old daughter Chanel, who has autism was diagnosed at age 3 ½, and we worked every day after that for a more than a year to try to get her to make a sound, any sound. We knew she had a voice; we just had to help her get it out. Besides speech therapy, one of the most effective tools for us was PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System). There are more sophisticated tools available now, but this one really worked for us. The system uses images to help a child with autism to connect an image to an object, and through hard work to begin to verbalize the word for that object. In this short video, I share how we used the system, and the results we had.

Presented by Trusera, the online network where you can find and share real-world experiences with others who have been there. Autism Awareness starts with Insight, Understanding and Inspiration. Every Day. Come. Listen. Share.
