i call bullshit. for one, class did play a role in getting passengers off of the titanic: there was a higher percentage of 1st class survivors than any other class, including, of course, men. look it up. you know why women were given preference in getting off the titanic? because men relegated them to being caretakers. they generally had to take care of the children who also got off. and men have fewer rights than women nowadays? don't blame the victim, blame the oppressor.

WHAT?! Men tear down everything decent on the planet? Who do you think built this world? Who made a huge chunk of the inventions which made people's lives easier and changed the nature of work and reproduction so that modern feminism was possible? MEN! It's actually women who have a self-selecting bias to protect their own gender. Men will frequently bust their own ass to protect women. (Even women they don't know if they see them being attacked.) Mans do a pretty good job of tearing down everything good & decent on the planet. Alice Walker is not "tearing you down" nor "turning you down". She is surrounding you with women. But not as your playthings. As your mothers, your sisters, your grandmothers, your aunts, your daughters.

Her point is that "Woman" includes both man & woman. Mothers love all their children, male or female. It is only males that prefer boys, only want boys. Why? Well, males are more "valued" than females.
