SelectPlusPart of Qantas Cockpit Voice Recording LostPart of Qantas Cockpit Voice Recording LostThe Associated PressInvestigators will not be able to review the cockpit voice recording of a Qantas jet's midair crisis because it was overwritten as the crew made a harrowing emergency landing, an official said Tuesday. (July 29)Investigators say the cockpit voice recorder from the damaged Qantas jumbo jet was partially overwritten. The Boeing 747-400 landed in Manila Friday with a car-sized hole in it's fuselage. The recorder contains the last two hours of the troubled flight. But the incident that created the hole happened more than two hours before flight landed. The recording starts after the plane began its emergency decent. Investigators say it will still be valuable in assessing the crew's handling of the emergency. They're also looking at the flight data recorder--which contains 25 hours of information.(SOT: NEVILLE BLYTH, SENIOR INVESTIGATOR FROM THE AUSTRALIAN TRANSPORT AND SAFETY BUREAU)THE AIRCRAFT IS EQUIPPED WITH THIRTEEN OF THESE SIMILAR BOTTLES, ONE OF WHICH REMAINS UNACCOUNTED FOR.Australia's senior investigator also showed off a cylinder similar to one that's missing from the plane. It may have blown through the aircraft's skin.(SOT: NEVILLE BLYTH, SENIOR INVESTIGATOR FROM THE AUSTRALIAN TRANSPORT AND SAFETY BUREAU)THAT IS THE MOST LIKELY EXPLANATION FOR THE ABSENCE OF THE CYLINDER. THERE HAS BEEN A THOROUGH SEARCH, AS YOU CAN APPRECIATE, OF ALL AREAS OF THE AIRCRAFT NOW, INCLUDING TRIM PANELS AND OTHER ASPECTS OF THE AIRCRAFT STRUCTURE HAVE BEEN EXAMINED. NO TRACE OF THE CYLINDER HAS BEEN RECOVERED OTHER THE COMPONENTS THAT I DISCUSSED YESTERDAY -- THE VALVE, THE VALVE HANDLE AND THE LIKE.Qantas has ordered inspects on all oxygen cylinders on its Boeing 747-400s. The Australian-based airline also had another scare Monday. A flight had to return to Adelaide after a landing gear door failed to close.(SOT: MOS)THERE WAS A NOISE DISTURBANCE AS WE LEFT ADELAIDE, AND A SORT OF A SHAKING SOUND, AND THEY JUST SAID THERE WAS ONE OF THE DOORS LOOSE.(SOT: MOS) I WAS REALLY FRIGHTENED, AND WHAT MADE IT WORSE IS THAT I AM NOT WELL. AND SO I WAS REALLY QUITE CONCERNED. A safety official called that problem pretty minor. ___ ___, The Associated Press.

  • My Friend was on that plane 2 weeks before this accident happened.

  • Qantas is shit airlines.

  • Qantas crashed? Rainman will NEVER fly in a plane. Definitely not...

  • @TonkatrainHONKHONK its usually a 30 minute loop so what happened 30minutes and 1 second ago is lost continuously up until shutdown. Its normal.

  • Don't the recorders wright over themselves every so often?

  • Maybe they're trained to continue like everything's normal so people don't panic. That's crazy.

  • wow.

  • @istiklalcaddesi i am not sure why you say it was purposely covered up? It was widely reported and an investigation carried out by ATSB
