Coming from the perspective of a Windows Mobile user, here's my first impressions of the Blackberry 8820.

  • Sounds pretty biased to me. Anything new is going to be unfamiliar and take some getting used to. I don't need labels on the icons because I've learned what each does; it doesn't take that long.

Also, the reviewer claims to have just taken the device out of the box, but then mentions he couldn't "feel" the icons as he scrolled around on the way home. Not to mention his complaint of the GPS failing to get a satellite fix after leaving it "for hours".

    A bit of open-mindedness would've been nice

  • The time and amount of frustration that it takes to get used to the phone could be greatly reduced with a more intuitive user interface design.

  • taking steps in the room will not change your position, GPS/A-GPS is never that accurate (less than 10ft on avg)

  • I walked around outside for about a mile and the "Find Location" would not find my location. However, the "Start GPS Navigation" option did.

  • UR current Theme=Zen,limits the small 5-6 apps, so pressing the Menu key jumps you 1ST to applications. Also to fix the GPS fix (if you have an 8310/8110/8130/8800series) models go2 Main list of icons (Home Screen), then scroll & click on the Options icon (think of it as Settings in WM6) and find GPS. Refresh the GPS find and BBMaps (or other mapping software, Navipoint, etc, will give you voice turn by turn guidance) will quickly find UR position.

  • Thanks, I'll try that. But why can one command in the BB Maps program get my position, while the other one can't?
