  • @redapple2312 Even if your children are just clones of you, that still makes you their father. They just don't have a mother, not a biological one.

One has to pull apart the story of Metal Gear. Just because it's a big tapestry doesn't mean some parts aren't better/worse than the others. The games can be criticised, it's not beyond criticism.

Personally I prefer the more simplistic stories. Complicated plots lead Hideo into a common rookie trap of being overly expositional, as seen in 2 & 4.

  • @MrLunitunz story is anything to complain about because every episode serves a different purpose and has it's own story which links together. If anything, the fact Big Boss never really revealed his feeling towards Snake until MGS4 only lead that open to question until that point. On top of everything, Big Boss isn't really father, brother, whatever. To Snake he is his father, when really he's just a clone parent. So it's interpreted differently by the characters involved.

  • @MrLunitunz Big Boss was only a minor support character in the 8-bit games which were so primitive that there was very little room for character dev, so in that sense, though canonical you can't blame them for not revealing every story element in depth on scrolling text format. So MGS1 was the real beginning which developed Snake, then MGS2 looked more at the world and ethics and introduced Raiden, then MGS3 went back to the start, and MGS4 just explained EVERYTHING. I honestly don't think the

  • @redapple2312 We never got the sense that Big Boss never wanted Snake until MGS4, and even so, Snake in MGS1 says 'There was a man who said he was my father'. Such dialogue never ocurred in MG1 or 2, so it's a retcon.

Everything else was simply clearing up minor inconsistencies or trying to bring the Post-Modernist plot elements of MGS2 back to reality a bit.

Ultimately, given MGS2 and 4, there's something to be said for the simplicty of MG2, MGS1, MGS3 and Peace Walker.

  • Well, I'd post the image links in the comment box but seeing as I can't... if you want some pictures of Kojima's projects, possible MGS5 concepts, and new concept art of Big Boss just send me a message and I'll give you the links.
