Sen. Schumer Pushes For Public Option

Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) calls out Republicans for the way they have been attacking Democrats about Medicare and then makes a case for including a public option in the Senate Finance committee's health care bill.

The amendment is defeated 10-12.

Could you name all the successful government endeavors? Medicare, cited, is broken and broke. So lets mimic it? Um, no! It also costs ~$10,000/beneficiary. Can we afford that? Um, no. This "public option" concept is such BS. Schumer KNOWS the public option will prevail for the simple reason that it can absorb significant losses (and pass them on to the American taxpayer) and private insurance cannot. Roosevelt did this with the TVA: he knew private sector utilities could be priced out of the market by undercutting them. This is disingenuous from the get-go, and they all know it. Make it cheaper, and they will come, then pass the cost overruns to the taxpayer.
