McKinleyville, Calif. -- The U.S. Coast Guard safely hoisted an injured logger, Roy Webster, from the Redwood forest this afternoon.
Group Humboldt Bay received a call from "Green Diamond" stating that Mr. Webster had possibly fractured both of his legs. An HH65C helicopter was launched from Air Station Humboldt Bay at approximately 12:00 p.m. and arrived on- scene 22 minutes later. The helicopter, piloted by CDR Rick Christoffersen, LCDR Mark Fluitt, Flight Mechanic Jake Marks and Rescue Swimmer Chuck Brannan navigated the steep terrain and performed the hoist from an altitude of 150 feet.
Mr. Webster was medevac'd to the Air Station in McKinleyville where an awaiting ambulance transported him to St. Joseph's hospital.

When I was a Search and Rescue Controller at Group Humboldt Bay we had rescues like this a couple of times a year. I applaud the crew of CG 6544 for a flawless mission execution and for carrying on the traditions in the memory of CG6549 and CG6541.
