The forty foot HO scale diorama of the first thirteen miles of rail in America located in the former Freight House at the B&O Railroad Museum, Ellicott City Station. The museum`s current exhibit, "The War Came By Train", commemorates the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the American Civil War.
Buildings formerly on the model, including the Freight House, built after 1861 have been temporarily removed and replaced by rolling stock and features appropriate for the era. Included are Union encampments guarding Ellicott`s Mills, the village`s former name and, especially, the Thomas Viaduct, crucial to the Union as, had it been captured by the Confederacy, Washington D.C. would have been cut off from the Union.
The exhibit will track the Civil War years 1861-1865. The model will revert to its former configuration when the war "ends" in 2015.

Absolutely fascinating history. Great job on the video. That was the quickest I've ever traveled 13 miles on the ground.
