put Option "NoLogo"
in your xorg.conf in the device section to not have to see the Nvidia splash screen.

First linux boot-up I've seen that doesn't have a shitty ass 1990s CRT monitor! Thumbs up on originality! =P

I have googled with no success.
I'm getting confused since I can't detect any sign of any DHCP daemon running in the background, so I'm not even sure that it's the DHCP that assigns a wrong IP address.
But once I restart my networking daemon it assigns the correct IP that I defined in intefaces file.

I'm planning to move to arch after about a year spent on mint, mint is really good but I like the freedom of directly editing the settings files.
In mint many of those settings files are missing, changed with distro specific files or moved to another place so sometimes I get into a situation where I'm unable to find them.
For example, now I can't disable the DHCP, I have edited the /etc/network/interfaces to assign a static IP address but it still gets dynamically assigned.
