It was the surf of the century. It was a south swell that was assisted by a long direct winds down way off of Baja, never happens. About ten years ago there was a large south swell but not as big as this one plus this new swell did not hit the LA area. The statistics for LA is about 10% for south swells now. Hurricanes used to go way off Baja, south of LA. Now they are all predicted to hit the tip of Baja. You'd be more stoked going down a snowy hill with ur board

i was looking for parking when it happened
pretty crazy

Nah, the wedge is craziest during a south swell which maybe happens 2X a year at best.

I believe that the best opportunity for large swells at The Wedge happen in the summer. It is also dependent on tropical storms from the South Pacific I believe in combination with off-shore winds off the California coast. From what I have heard on the news reports though is that this is the biggest it has been in a number of years.
