Filmed during one of my many trips to Normandy.

WN62 was one of the strongest of the entire sector build at the eastern exit (E3) of the small valley that descended from Colleville. It had as its major armament two 75 mm cannon housed in H669 casemates aimed along the beach to the west. The Germans manning the guns were billeted in the village and in house nearby was used to feed the troops and allowed them to rest whilst on guard here.
There were two small bunkers used to house ammunition .
Various machine gun posts were also installed and it is typical of the Atlantic Wall defences that various calibre machine guns were in use here. There was also an anti tank gun and an 50 mm mortar mounted in a Tobruk. There was a small fire control post / observation bunker to keep watch over the sea commanded Lt.Bernhard Frerking who would radio the 352 Artillery Regiment mannning the heavy guns to the rear.

  • This is at Colleville sur Mer and no, there is no fee other than your travel expenses. You can do a google search for 1st Infantry division monument at Colleville or Saint Laurent sur Mer Normandy at Omaha Beach. Enjoy your travels.

  • is is where the "beast of omaha beach" was?

  • @3BALL4 Yes, this is where Heinrich Severloh was posted.

  • awesome video... we salute USA

  • My great uncle, Arthur Auno, from South Range Michigan, was a squad leader for Easy Red Sector. He was a survivor of this campaign. He has sinced passed but he rarely talked about what happened. I heard about this through mutual accquaintences. He was a true hero. RIP uncle Art.

take a look to google earth: You will find photos with an inclined small tree. Close to that tree was the position of H. Severlow.

    .

  • @ObltKG4 Where exactly was he posted?

  • 4:35 -> close to the leaning tree in a foxxhole was the position of H.Severloh .

= Information written on the table (middle of picture 4:35)

  • @griffonsa He shouldnt have been imprisoned at all, its a war! Should our soldiers have been jailed who did the same as that man?

  • @griffonsa ??? Are you serious ??? They would have executed him possibly if they found out right there on Omaha beach when he surrendered but I hope you don't mean after the fact or war.

When a thousand ppl come to kill you, you don't ask questions, u just fight for ur life.

And they figure he was responsible for 1500 casulties not deaths

  • @ObltKG4 I cant believe they let this man go after only one or two years of imprisonment.. IF he is really guilty of the death of so many soldiers, they should have executed him.

I do believe 1500-2500 kills is exagerated...

Still... I am sure he could have easily killed a hundred...

    Like turkey shooting!

    RIP to the fallen....

    War is hell...

  • @griffonsa yw looking up stuff myself

  • @griffonsa I believe its colleville sur mer
