A 2 year Youtube Anniversary video and to start off is my first proper GBA speedrun that will get submitted to SDA later this year.
This is played on the Gameboy Player (An accessory to play GB/GBC/GBA games on the Gamecube). The first segment mainly covers rescuing Zelda and finishes at the Sanctuary. The first save is used here to warp back to Link's house and go to Eastern Palace.

The only possible improvement is Luck with the important enemies I face since the rat that had the key went the wrong way. It's also better to make this segment long rather than having 2 segments (where Segment 2 takes place after unlocking the Prison Door and talking to Zelda) because the Green Guard I kill in this segment comes back and is required to be defeated to open the doors.

And for those who are waiting for my Super Mario 64 DS runs well I'm not posting anymore previews because I've completed my FINAL segment of the run. I'm going to re-do my previous 4 segments (Segment: 3,5,9 and 11) and then I'll submit to SDA but don't expect it to be up immediately.

  • protip: at 2:53, use the pots to kill the guard. You only need to hit him twice and it will save you a few seconds.

  • True but you need to somewhat manipulate his slow speed to come to Link.

Secondly picking up a pot, exit the mini cage section costs more than 2 seconds.

Lastly throwing the first pot pushes the guard way back. Both TSA SS run and the current TAS run doesn't use the pots at all.

  • But the TAS I am working on uses the pot, only one, and it is faster at least.

I'm going to watch through your segments later to say what I think. There are a few tricks in the game that I doubt you know. So I would like to discuss the run with you if that's Ok :).

  • I haven't saw your first one for a while so I stupidly forgot *facepalms*.

Yeah it would be nice to discuss the run. I don't really mind if I restart the whole run and get:

A faster kill, lucky rat key and a heart container (damage is pretty high and quite risky even on the 1st dungeon).

  • Watching this brought back my child hood.. The good days :)

  • I'm so glad I never bothered to buy this game (my SNES still functions awesomely so I play the original). The changed sound effects would bug me to hell. Plus the dialogue changes! What happened to the lovely ambiguous "Zelda is your..."? Now it's this "do not fall victim to fate" business? Bah. I'm going to try to watch your whole run here, but I might not make it... damn sound effects. Looks good so far though.

  • If you're playing this on the GAMEBOY PLAYER, hoiw do you pick up items, such as pots? I know how on the GBA, but not on the GameBoy player...

  • capcom?

  • I didn't know about the boomerang having a darkworld chest location, because many people rarely ignored that chest other than low% runs.

The GBA might be saving friendly (starting at a dungeon) but you lose a good amount of seconds when the game is actually saving when comparing to the SNES :(.

  • wrong, it gets in a chest later in the dark world of kakarico village. But I highy believe getting it earlier is faster.

On a side note, this one segment has a footage of 5mins 49 seconds long... While it should turn around 5mins 30 =|.

My current 1st segment on SDA is 5:59 long, and my new one (that I'm only done with light world) is 5:52... only three seconds behind you on a faster version!
