I took up the hobby of RC Helicopter flying in early February 2008 & have no previous experience in RC. In this video I have been flying for 6 weeks & have just reached 100 flights. The Hurricane is a fantastic heli to learn on.

  • Just uploaded battery 1 of the TREX 450. It's so stable compared to the king2. Still I managed to crash at the park on the second battery it didn't take long, not used to it yet! I need to practice hovering orientations.

  • Do a lot of orientation practise in your backyard before heading to the park Clint. I found in the open space the heli got away from me quickly. Put in the practice on the sim with wind. If you can get develop good collective control it will save you from a few crashes!

  • Cool, what kind of gyro do these have? I now have an 11T pinion installed in the hbk2 but the tail is still being difficult. TREX isn't built yet.

  • I used the Futaba GY401 gyro. Very good, reliable & easy to set up gyro. It's virtually an industry benchmark. You must use a fast digital tail servo with it to get good tail authority

  • Looks like fun, I'm thinking of getting one myself as a first helicopter.

Did you teach yourself how to fly?

  • You want be disapointed with a Hurricane 550, they are a great first heli. Very stable & visible, not too noisy - so you can practice in your backyard! Yes I taught myself how to fly. I started with Radds school of rotary flight - (Highly recommended)& progressed from there. I have received help from the guys at my local flying club as well. But most of the practice has been at home.

  • man i want to live there, heli heaven. Nice flying too my friend

  • Hey Geeim40, just finished my second flight on the Gaui 550. Total newbie! posted two vids. Plan on flying every morning or night or both...hope I can progress as nicely as you have! Any suggestions? Was wondering what throttle/pitch curves you finally decided on for Normal flight mode?

  • You fly just as good as you did after 5 months that was fantastic I hope when I learn how to fly it will be just as good as

    You.

  • Very nice... You are "made" for it ,like me ;P

I,after ~2 weeks, was able to do invert hover with my MT. I never flown befor with any model.

    Once again, bravo! :)

  • Damn good for six weeks. Did you fly RC fixed wing models before this?

  • Will do, I need to take it slower. I've added 40% expo and shorter flybar with weights and changed my throttle curve. Will give it another go tomorrow in the backyard which is a restricted space.

  • Thanks that's the gyro I have along with S9257... I might put it on the king since it's the only thing flyable at the moment! I really should do some work (which has been piling up) to pay for this hobby...
