  • I'm looking at this lens for Friday Night Football next season. I'm afraid for my life shooting f4 though haha I had trouble already with an 80-200 and D300. I just scored a D700 on eBay so it should help.

  • @Booyaaa100 There is a minimum front element size required for every focal length and aperture combination. He is correct that, physically/optically, it is not possible to construct a 300mm f/4 with a round front element of less than 75mm in diameter. Maybe the 77mm-threaded 300mm f/4 has a 75mm front element and maybe it doesn't, but the general statement is accurate.

  • Ok really? Don't spout off stuff that isn't true. It was a decent video, but the new 300mm lenses, both the f4 and f2.8, are "real" 300's. The smaller filter size does not affect focal length. Focal length is determined by the distance of the rear element from the sensor plane.

  • @alfredojajaja Get this lens but the AF-S version. It is faster than the 70-300, sharper and yes it takes the TC14eII

  • I have the same Lens It is great. I have a Dikon D-1 and D 100 Plus a F100 N008

The Lens works Great with all Nikon Auto Focus Cameras

Thank you for your Great Listing

  • go suck ken rockwell's nuts some more dude. You have no idea about engineering a lens.

  • wate of money

  • d60 and d80 same price? jajaja right! like the d3x and the d300 are the same price right?

  • Hey,

im in the need of a Telephoto prime lens (birding and wildlife) and i was also wondering for the AFS version, currently my uncle has a 70-300mm VR which i use most of the time, but the image quality isnt good at 300mm, so do you recommend me getting this lens? is it better than the 70-300mm? faster?

And does this lens take the TC14eII ?

    Thank you very much!!

  • Oh yea, and let us all know how well a polarizing element works out in the drop in filter slot.
