My response to the article titled "Im Christian unless you're gay".
I get the sentiment applied here, but I think that the application is a little unfair. Does being gay and teaching tolerance mean that you must ALWAYS be tolerant of everything? No of course not. Also I don't think being Christian or a disciple of Christ mean that you must be tolerant of everything. The main thing that people fail to understand, and mostly its people who have never been a disciple of Christ IMHO, are these things.
1. Being a Christian doesn't mean that you are perfect, and doesn't mean that you are any less human than someone who is of a different persuasion.
2. Being a disciple of Christ doesn't mean that you agree to or adhere to everything that Christ taught
I do believe that Christ would be tolerant and loving towards someone who is gay. I also don't believe that Christ would lobby for forbidden gay marriage on a legal level. I don't think Christ would spend time protesting at a gay soldiers funeral.
But I also know that 100% of Christians have NEVER lived like Christ, ever in all of history.
Christ raised the bar pretty high.

I agree that everyone is hypocritical at some point in their life. I think you made a good point by stating that homosexuals themselves are often hypocritical or intolerant towards others. No one is perfect. But I think Dan's main point was that everyone should strive to be tolerant of others & that we should try our best to love each other despite our differences. No one will succeed 100% & we should not expect that. We just have to be more conscious of our own actions.

you are absolutely correct.... I really agree with the double standard is NOT ok, I AM a lesbian, and I do try to teach my children "tolerance" and love, but I do understand that I can not expect others to love me for who I am, while judging them for their "intolerance"..... I could go on and on, but instead will just say, I agree with your post 100%.... thank you for posting, you are very clearly a very intelligent person and I appreciate your perspective.

one of the worst things about the Mormon church, for me, is the fact that they have formal homophobia from the pulpit, nationally and internationally. I think it's extremely dangerous and no doubt gets people at least ostracized, if not bullied and/or beaten.
