Oct 2011 - This is a video filmed in Hero Club Beijing on the 4 ways that I know of to deliver Wing Chun punches. Indeed, the method of delivery of Wing Chun punches has been a topic of much debate online and on youtube and there are people bashing other practitioners saying that their Wing Chun punch is wrong simply because they studied it one way from their sifu. Through my interaction and experience with so many different sifus I see almost every sifu throwing Wing Chun punch a different way! Are some of them wrong? I don't think so. I think different sifu or lineage simply have a different focus and method and I conclude that there are about 4 (or more) ways to deliver Wing Chun punches and all of them are correct as they all serve different purposes. So if you learn one of these 4 ways, please remember that others aren't wrong, they are just learnt from different lineages and sifus.

Method#1: Whipping - Master Wang Zhipeng, Sifu Sergio etc (Don't work too well with 12 pounds gloves)

Method#2: Direct Blast - Most lineages (works with all gloves)

Method#3: Hawkins/Jin - Master Hawkins, Sifu Jin Young etc (works with all gloves)

Method#4: Gary Lam Method - Master Gary Lum, Sifu Evangelos etc (works with all gloves)

Note: I don't think I expressed Gary Lam's method very well so please forgive me for that.

Note2: I have a sprained right wrist so I am unable to go on the bag too much to show the power of the different ways and I apologize for that.

  • You have very good/fast hands. Definitely use them to overwhelm your opponents in upcoming fights!

  • @DanHorganWingChun Thank you very much for your kind compliments. :) Indeed, so far the chain punching has been a powerful tool in my ring fighting arsenal and has always helped me gain control, land a few jaw strikes and open the way for my stronger strikes.

  • sorry, i have to tell you again that chain punches are the worst and amateur way of Wing Chun. The correct way of wing chun is in this order #1 Position/Angle/Control #2 Sensitivity #3 Speed #4 Power. When you chain punch you concentrate too much on speed and power... which is ineffective against good fighters. Concentrate on #1. When you obtain the best Position and Angle against your opponent you just need 1 hit to KO him.

  • @devilzmantis And yes, I do know about #1,2,3 and 4 and I already explained that it is the sequence of event in the way I fight too in my other video on the theory behind iron wire wing chun, please check them out.

  • @devilzmantis How many Wing chun guys it takes to screw a light bulb,One to do it and the rest to say he is doing it wrong. You have your method that work for you and thats great,He has his methods that works for him.Everybody has a way that works for them,as long as you are sticking the principles of Wing Chun it doesn't matter how one expresses it.I think this guy is doing a good thing because he is embracing many methods.

  • @shengchenfan Thank you so much for understanding what I am doing here. :) Indeed, I think an open mind is extremely important for the longevity of traditional martial arts. Once practitioners within the same style start to forget the principles but focus merely on the differences in expression, an art slowly degenerates into a superstition...

  • Excellent!

  • Interesting to see many ways of doing the same thing, very positive that you value all of them! :D all the best.

  • @ironwirewingchun I agree with you,all the best.

  • @devilzmantis Again I need to stress that it is just about the only Wing Chun attack you can use in MMA under gloves and rules. And this video is not about telling people that chain punching is the best. It is just a video trying to clarify that there is not just one way of doing chain punching. Also, if you have a video of a Wing Chun fighter in gloves KO someone with one hit, I would like to see it because I have never seen such a thing before. Thank you.
