Slightly different twist to "Down by the Sally Gardens" played on a 22 string cardboard diatonic harp. The harp has a wooden neck and column, but a cardboard soundbox (a "Fireside harp" from Backyard Music).

Assembled from a kit, to my knowledge the least expensive 22 string harp on the market.

Video taken with an older Canon Elph.

  • I thank you all for the comments.

Basically you assemble the frame (wood glue and screws), insert the tuning pins and bridge pins, apply danish oil to the frame (but NOT where the frame contacts the soundbox) paint the inside and outside of the soundbox, glue the soundbox so it stays shut, white glue the frame to the soundbox, and put the strings on. Don't rush, and think things through as you go.

I've played piano and other instruments over multiple decades. The harp, about 4 years.

  • Hey, that does have a decent tone! Nice playing, too; I like your tempo variations.

  • Hi there, I'm considering getting a Fireside Harp kit myself, and I'd like to know how it's like to build the harp. I'm a third year in high school, and I don't really know much about the instructions... Did you use the wood finishing oil they recommended? If you'd be able to drop a PM, I'd greatly appreciate it.

And your playing sounds absolutely fantastic! How long have you played?

  • Sounds great.

  • Nice. I want one.
