Tandava the Dance of Dissolution : A film by Jayan Cherian

Tandava the Dance of Dissolution is an attempt to re-read the Hindu myth of "Shiva Tandava" (the cosmic dance of Shiva) on the milieu of current history of warfare, destruction, intolerance and religious fundamentalism, using the costumes and dramatic techniques of the south Indian classical dance Bharatanatyam. The cosmic dance of Shiva is both symbol and reality at the same time. It is the movement of creation, preservation and dissolution, the triad taken together is the principle of MAYA (illusion), nature's endless impulse, taking place within each of the beings, and within every atom of the universe

I love Indian dance, but I am always trapped in it's limitation of femininity and it's lack of relevance to my life. It's always done and performed within what is proper. What you showed breaks what is proper. My favorite scene is when the dance unveils the other dance, and she is shocked to see another dancer. Keep it up.

The current "politics" shown in this video, namely Bush's America verses the Islamic fundamentalists etc. is a highly limited topic to cover along side something as powerful as the Shiva Tandav. The Shiva Tandav has a cosmic scope, beyond the mere stupidity demonstrated in our current world. The Shiva Tandav is a dance of the Great Lord of Destruction, Time the Killer of Worlds.

don t know what this has to do with shiva tandava.... it s just a mixup of all bad that happens in this world but shiva is not the doer in that, so what is his tandava having to do with that? i don t get it...

The Christians and Muslims fight each other because all they understand is gross violence, so they will continue to slaughter each other, just as they slaughter so many animals daily. The concept of Shiva, known as Mahadev is beyond their "political" perceptions.
