On THE DOCTORS airing Monday, November 1, host Dr. Travis Stork provides a visual animation of what happens inside the body of a smoker after he or she quits smoking for good. For more information, please visit www.TheDoctorsTV.com.
Had I known the Nicotrol inhalers existed and how easy it would make quiting, I would have stopped a long time ago. It is doctor prescribed and insurance will only pay for a few of months supply, but it is worth a try. I have a mild case of COPD after 40 years, which does not effect my quality of life and I deem to be a miracle. My singing voice even came back. There are so many people who smoke for short periods in their life and suffer sickness and death. See your doctor and stop smoking.
I used Nicotrol inhalers to quit after 40 years. It was easier than I could have imagined because the inhalers are shaped like cigs, delivered a small dose of nicotine with each drag and I maintained the hand to mouth movement, just as if I was really smoking. After 3 months, I ran out and paniced, but I contiuned to puff on the empty inhaler and surprisingly I didn't miss the nicotine at all. After a few weeks, I didn't feel like puffing anymore. That was 3 years ago. It was painless.
@noodzintheblue : The most effective mindset is to come to realize that you are NOT making a sacrifice by giving up smoking. In fact, you are NOT giving up anything. Quite the opposite. You are GAINING everything. Once the desire to smoke is seen for what it is (a nicotine addiction and no more), then you can just set it down like a bag of bricks. Then you don't have to fight anymore. Buy, borrow, steal, rent a copy of the book and see for yourself. Good luck in any case.
@noodzintheblue : You should really pick up Allen Carrs book. I think that your approach, while well intentioned, is misguided. You are making things soooooooo much harder than it has to be. You have this conflict set up deliberatly in your head where you are using will power to battle a strong yen. The problem is will power runs out eventually. Even if it doesn't, conflict will exhaust you and subtract from the quality of life.
@TheRandomSweed : Stop torturing yourself. Buy 'Stop Smoking the Easyway' by Allen Carr. Costs about the same as 2pks of smokes. It helped millions of people quit. I can't say it would do the same for you but you need to know the real truth about smoking. And these goofy, half educated, tv "doctors" really don't know shit about nicotine addiction. Do yourself a favor: Read the book with an open mind, absorb it's message, and believe in yourself. Just go for it! You might surprise yourself.
I engage in inner conflict instead of allowing the fight to be on a subliminal level. I say i really need one. then why it's been a long time, and your feeling better now. could it really hurt just one? yes it could then I'll have to start all over, it's easier not to. So far the quitter hasn't lost this arguement once!
Ive been smoking for 18 years, and now i smoke 4 to 5 cigarettes per hour sometimes more and it feels so bad that my blood vessels contract that i have a hard time walking.
