I started taking lessons in Tai Chi (Yang Style) in 1983 after I had visited Taipei and Hong kong in December 1982.
Usually I do my Tai Chi accompanied by Chinese erhu music, but today I received in the mail from a friend that I met through youtube a CD of his music... titled "The Spirit of Vein Mountain" (Native American Style Flute Music by DreamWalker).
This fabulous CD is absolutely perfect for doing Tai Chi to and to prove it I made this video. Yang Style Tai Chi consists of 3 forms (segments) which takes about 25 minutes to perform. Forms one and two take about 10 minutes and form three takes about 15 minutes. Here I have done forms one and two to meet youtube's time limit.
The camera image is rather restricted due to the small space available and the flute music sometimes has to contend with the creaking wood floors of our old home, but all in all I think I've made my point.

  • Beautiful music. I took a few Tai Chi lessons this past summer. It's a lot harder than it looks. Thanks for posting this. It's motivated me to try Tai Chi again.

  • I first saw Tai Chi on a 15 hour flight on China Air going from LA to Taipei in Dec 1982. This 747 had several rows of seats removed near the front bulkhead of economy class. During this extremely long flight I saw people getting up from their seats to do Tai Chi in this open area of the cabin. It made absolute sense to me. I then saw it in the parks of Hong Kong... I decided to check it out when I got home. I took lessons for almost 10 years. Good for mind and body.

  • Hi Lew - what a great display of Tai Chi. Your moves were extremely smooth & executed well. I'm flattered you used my music for your video.

    Stay well & healthy.

    Thanks,

    WT & Maxine

  • Your flute playing is absolutely perfectly suited to Tai Chi and I do my Tai Chi every day. Good thing CD's don't wear out... because this one's gonna get lots of use.

  • I think I am going to start learning Tai Chi.

  • depends on how good you want to be? Give it a year before you can truly begin to enjoy the art - up until then, you'll be focused on moving the right limb at the right time. only after it has been committed to muscle memory will you begin to feel the full effects of tai chi - and that begins, like i said, after about a year.

  • interested in learning this type of relaxation/exercise how long will it take?

  • Nice example of Yang style, and a beautiful old home!

  • Moving meditation is a good way to describe it!

  • Very smooth and the Indian Flute music really fits the bill for Tai Chi; I teach Tai Chi..you missed 'Carry Tiger to the Mountain'

Only kidding, very peacefully done. Thanks,

    Loon

  • Amazing! The music is beautiful and perfect for the moves. I'm not familiar with Tai Chi but I'm really impressed by the slow fluidity you achieve--it looks like a wonderful sort of moving meditation.

Thanks to all for the sharing--

What a great community this is!

    U-K-T
