"Inspired by [Sigurd] Raschèr's artistry, Brehme wrote his colossal Sonata in 1932. He was one of the first composers to make extensive use of the upper register of the saxophone, which Raschèr was pioneering at the time.
...Brehme attended the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin from 1922 to 1928, where he studied composition with Robert Kahn and piano with Wilhelm Kempff. In the waning years of the Weimar Republic and throughout the Third Reich, Brehme was recognized as one of Germany's most gifted composers. He was also highly regarded for his skills as a pianist, and he often performed his own works."

The performance is from a faculty recital given by Dr. Wildy Zumwalt at SUNY Fredonia's Rosch Recital Hall on 2 May 2008. He is accompanied by Kathy Hansen on the piano.

Thank you for posting this most enjoyable video. It is always interesting to see performances of 20th c sax and piano repertoire here on YouTube.  In his note, Dr Zumwalt might have added that the demands on the pianist are pretty substantial.
