As we have laerned from Jurassic Park: Life finds a way. when this does happen, we will survive somehow, if not, then the whole life cycle will begin anew. Hopefully for the better this time.

Yes I agree but what if the asteriod was smaller hm? What if it was the moon, when it fell out of our orbit and was dragged by our gravity. Then, when noticed the "rock" had the shit blown out of it but didn't have any affect (It IS that big) thus we meet our demise.
