That certainly sounds like a factor. However, I began by flying gliders and found it no help at all. I should admit that my military flying was in helicopters....so I guess it's not a suprise that soaring only helped with air navigation and a sense of "being at home" in the air. I think most military pilots have previous flying experience simply because they always wanted to fly from a young age. Perhaps there's something cultural about working well with machines?

@cogreza indeed :D

@YogDodoth yeah but still the best in something, dont you think so?

It's because Germans and many middle- and eastern-Europeans begin flying with soaring. I don't think many Americans begin flying with soaring. Being able to fly for hours and long distances without a motor, requires great technique. And most of these pilots who get into the academy have a history of flying since the age of 15.

@KingOfTheClutch Well said, amigo. I appreciate that. Greetings bro.

@rock3tcat there not, I'd say the most incompetent pilotd are probably those from the ugadan or ethiopian airforces. and anyway you can't generalize a whole nations pilots. every airforce has shitty and very good pilots, and media only ever report the fuck ups, so you don't ever hear about the good piltos

@rock3tcat - And how would you know ? Learn that on your Xbox or Flight Simulator, did ya ? Why dont you go back to your video game universe and comment on Justin Bieber, Lady GaGa or something you are more qualified to comment on. As an "American Pilot" with over 30 years REAL WORLD experience I fly with and know some of the worlds best aviators from right here in the USA. And dont you forget it, gamer joystick jockey.

american't pilots are probably the most incompetent of all. :D

@swiftsilentdeadly17 Ups my friend.... United States Navy Aviators are rolling the wheal in that.
@Void304 Government regulations at thier finest, My father in law served in the USAF for 27 years, from start to finish, and to this very day (10 years post-retirement) he will tell you, the Luftwaffe carries the best pilots on the planet, they have better training, and higher pre-requisites prior to becoming a full term pilot.

Within a HUNDRED FEET of the ground? That... wow, man... that's ... seriously... not that low. Come on, why can't we get some proper flying displays these days? Or will Health and Safety not let us?
