This demonstrates that a contour line is a line where all points on the line are of equal elevation. This uses blue water to fill a plastic volcano mold. Water lines are traced to show the contour lines.

  • Interesting technique. The water can be used to define the contours as long as the elevation is always increasing. But detailed contours within depressions could be mapped by poking holes so that the depressions can fill up with water from below. :-)
