Go NZ!!
We had a (RC) vampire turbine jet flying in Nelson a few weeks back, awesome to watch.

I would have thought that the Futaba FASST system would be fairly safe from that considering it channel surfs?
-
i was under the impression that (atleast with my Spekrtum system) it locks two 2.4Ghz channels, and is pretty bombproof? Surely better safety than the older system where another guy could accidentally turn his tx on with your freq and send you plane into the ground??

the only downside with 2.4 is that it is a lot more sensitive (well not that much) to mobile & data signals (wifi) so they are more likely to have interferance close to telpephone masts etc. But that is very, very, very unlikely to happen. Most radios use the F.A.S.T. system, it just happens once in a while that for a second that to channels are the same. There is a vid here on youtube with a guy getting interface from a smartphon. But dont worry it rarely happens.
