On the other hand, it might be interesting to see a more realistic film version of Charlie Chan or Chang Apana or whoever set in the 1920's. Earl Der Biggers's books are probably much better than the more cartoonish films, but there's an interesting idea of fleshing out the actual Chan's biography. I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell of that happening, but it's intriguing to consider.
God, that was mindnumbingly awful. At a minimum, one expects comedy to actually be funny, not to be a painfully earnest exercise in well-intentioned didacticism.
