I agree that NCLB needed to be changed, but I'm wondering why teachers feel that they can't use other methods of testing (like essays) to help their students learn? I'm also totally in favor of other ways of teaching - like the field trips & activities you describe. Hands-on learning is longer-lasting in my opinion. How do you feel about the recent changes to NCLB which would allow States to draft their own plans? Maybe States could get more input from teachers?
No Child Left Behind standardized learning on a national level through a series of mandatory assessments. Here, we really began to teach to the test. Your video reminds me of the We've Got To Be That Light video! You commented on funding a bit. Do you think that our educational problems are a result of a lack of funding or is it more that what educators are doing is wrong? It reminds me of Turing Learning Right Side Up where the authors spoke about doing the wrong thing better. Great video!!!!!!
