The WL-15005 steam engine as seen at the parade of steam engines in Delhi, India on 02-Feb-2007.
==== About the WL-15005 ====
Given the majestic name of "Shere-e-Punjab" (Tiger of Punjab), this engine has the privilege of hauling the last broad gauge steam train on Indian Railways.
This historic run took place between Firozpur and Jallandhar on 06-Dec-1995. It usually hauled mail/express trains and was alloted to Southern Railway and was based at the Shoranur Shed, Kerala. Subsequently it was transferred to Northern Railway where it was initially based at Bhatinda shed, Punjab, from there it was moved to Ludhiana, Punjab and finally to Firozpur from where it retired from service.
Built in the year 1955 by Vulcan Foundry, UK this engine has a gauge of 5' 6" and a wheel arrangement of 4-6-2. It is currently housed at the Steam Center at Rewari.

@ Steffan: Steam locos have been nearly phased out in India. Mostly diesel and electric locos are used in India. Broad guage is not phased out, on the contrary the meter guage is getting converted to broad guage.
