Dated July 11, 2004. NJT GP40FH-2 #4133 pushes a set of MNCR Comet Vs past the old ERIE Railroad station in Port Jervis, NY.

I was a mere 12 years old when I shot it so it is shaky at points (and not to mention my terrible voice).

  • So why is the entire route single track, why dosn't NS restore the entire southern tier from Hoboken all the way to Chicago using the Erie's tracks and right of way. It's pretty lonely up there, and There's forest everywhere, Sounds scary, but to make sound even more scary I heard that there was an abondon slaughterhouse maybe some 43 or 55 miles further northwest in a town called Fleetville in Pennslyvania, it's just over the mountains in the background. Pretty rural and creepy at night.

  • @Zillion43 Because they don't need it. Why have redundant lines? It would just cost more to maintain them.

  • @TheLastBrainLeft Those were the Comet 1A's that were vandalized in Port Jervis and were scrapped back in 2005 not the Comet 1B's the 1B's went out of service back in 2008. Then the Comet I's the following year.

  • @cbehr91 I rode on this train Saturday and might ride it again next weekend! I loved the entire ride from Secaucus to Port Jervis. The Moodna Viaduct and the Otisville Tunnel was Great! But the scenery doesn't start until you get to Ramsey Route 17 Station. It was a Great Trip and I didn't even get bored not one bit.

  • port jervis makes Newburgh look like Beverly Hills. at least the waterfront area in newburgh is trying to improve.

  • Those were the Comet IB's, which were removed from the area and scrapped in 2005 after suffering from heavy vandalism.

  • Port Jervis is where the NY suburbs and the Southern Tier meet. It's a mix of suburbanites and poor white trash. But at least it's not Newburgh.

I would not want to live in Port Jervis and work in NY. It's really too long of a commute.

  • Yeah, that's not taking much time off of your ride. It'll still be about 2 hours.

  • but i'll get on in Secaucus but that is still a long ride

  • I don't know. I live in Ohio and was going through here on a trip to New York. You'd probably be bored because it only gets occasional NJT service and almost no freights. It takes a little over 2 hours to go from Port Jervis to Hoboken by train.
