GE Washer Motor Making Loud Noise. I thought it was the gearbox but after spending $180 on a new one it turned out to be the motor. It has some sort of actuator inside (speed control). When it finally stopped working months after I posted this video, I replaced it with a similar one I bought on ebay for $75. The old one had broken pieces of hard plastic that came out the top when I turned it over. Hope this helps

Good Luck

  • Thanks for the video I am working on a free fix for this without having to replace the motor. I will use your video on my webpage since I fixed mine and it no longer clicks.

  • Awesome! Feel free to use the video if it helps.

  • I forgot the exact model I replaced it with. I bought it on ebay - contact me if you want the seller name. The auction description said the following: GE WASHER MOTOR & CLUTCH WH49X10035 / WH20X10009.

  • @buckrogers13 Has the original video been removed? I don't see a repair taking place in this video, only a video of a washing machine running with the clicking sound - then maybe without.

  • is GE a good brand?

  • I had the same sound on mine, but it was the magnetic reed switch on the door that was causing this. I replaced the reed switch and the problem stop. You can test this by wiggling the wires that go to the door switch.

  • Crap. Got almost same sounds on one that in my apartments.

While on maximum spinning (AFTER washing), starting to make souns like that, but MUCH faster, Did everything that i can, nothing helped. Gonna deattach it and look closer from inside.

  • @tmastersat

Any luck on finding a free fix?

I am having the same issue with this GE piece of junk

  • mine was squeaky during the agitation cycle, I shot some synthetic chain lube(for motorcycles) on it and it shut it up nice :)

  • Mine was clciking and then the gentle wash cycle and slow spin quit. this is a 13 month old washer that has been lightly used

$200 for motor on ebay, $450 to have GE repair do it.

This is my LAST GE EVER. I just had 18 month old GE Quite power 3 dishwasher stop cleaning months after warranty ended.

Not only is GE junk, parts are insanely priced. motor on washers is known to fail and GE probably has them made fo $40 to $50. they could at least sell them at cost on a KNOWN/common problem.
