The Story of the Kelly Gang (part 2)

Released in 1906, The Story of the Kelly Gang is the world's first full-length feature film. Filmed outside Melbourne when the Kelly legend was still fresh, it was believed lost for many years. However, a century after it was first shot, the Australian National Film and Sound Archive have re-incorporated 11 minutes of material recently discovered in the United Kingdom. The restoration is now 16 minutes long and includes the key scene of Ned Kelly's last stand.

I've uploaded this marvelous piece of Australian and cinematic history in the hopes that everyone will have the opportunity to witness this staggering achievement. It also includes piano accompaniment by Mauro Colombis, from the Pordenone Silent Film Festival.

What a shame. Deterioration is a sad part of film history. Still plagues us today. To think this is really only just over 100 years old. A life and a bit ago.

Many at the time thought the popularity of films would be short-lived, so the studios didn't put a whole lot of effort towards preserving them. Boy, if they were alive today...
