Vigil Trailer

A black comedy by one of Canada's greatest award-winning playwrights. Childhood was anything but normal for Kemp. His list of early age traumas include: A Rumanian dwarf tutor, force-fed accordion lessons and a fear of the dark until age 18. Not wanting to revisit a moment of it, Kemp successfully avoided all family contact for 30 years. That is, until the day he was guilted into taking care of his dying aunt. Now Kemp impatiently waits for the death of his bedridden aunt, attempting to fill in the time with recollections of his peculiar childhood along with playful musings on mortality. But his expectation of her death within days soon turns to weeks, then months, and eventually begins to feel like an eternity. Morris Panych has received numerous playwriting awards including two Governor General Awards—the most prestigious literary award in Canada. To give you an idea of the playwright's wonderfully dark humor, in a program note for the West End production, Panych dedicates the play "to all who have died and all who've not yet got around to it."
