During the 2009-2010 winter we documented the repower of a 53 ft Hatteras where two very old diesels are replaced with two new high-tech "fly by wire" Yanmars. WTVS PBS Detroit aired the full length program March 19, 2011 in High Definition (HD) after considerable effort in HD post. Production notes can be found here: http://moralpremise.blogspot.com/2011/05/big-yacht-repower-post-production.html . A teaser video also appears on this channel. You can purchase a DVD of this doc here: http://www.stanwilliams.com/doccomplete.html
(I see that some titles overlap in the credits...that's a new problem.)

  • Henry, we started shooting Nov. 2009. The main work on the boat continued, pretty much full time for 3 technicians through March 2010, with time off for Christmas. They renovated the whole boat technically, replacing many sub-systems that are best replaced with the electrical and engine systems are in upheaval. There were times when they'd be waiting 1 or 2 weeks for parts to be manufactured (like the exhaust system, and drive shaft. We shot the final scenes on the water in July 2010.

  • Wow...this is a real man´s job. How long did this take to fix....maybe one week I guess...

  • @edezede You're kidding? Right? The job started in November and continued through April the following year.

  • Incredible - couldnt stop watching. Answered alot of questions I had about marine engine replacement - great interior damage control prep - my dream job! You could probably win a few bets with that boat. Whats retail for a job like that?

  • As a licensed truck & coach mechanic for the the Toronto Transit Commission (T.T.C) and a proud owner of a 2008 Carver 36 Mariner I thought your full length film Big Yacht RePower was totally awesome. To see the craftsmanship, skill, precision detail and passion that went into this project was very much enjoyable to see. I just happened to be checking out supper yacht video clips on you tube when I happened to stumble across your film. Next time I'm up visiting my mother who lives across th

  • Bravo work and film production. My boat probably cost less than those engines, but considering repowering and this gave me a new respect for the process and Gregory Marine, which I pass all the time. Simpler job, but non the less, I'd want it done well.
