Just a quick test drive through Oisterwijk (near Tilburg, The Netherlands) in a Toyota MR2 Roadster.

Be sure to check out the third part, when the 1.8l VVT-i engine revs to 6500 RPM and produces 140 hp. Combined with a weight just below a metric ton, it can catapult itself from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7 seconds at best.

  • Klinkt goed, heb je er een video van? ;) Japanse sportwagens (Toyota's in het bijzonder) zijn altijd leuk om te zien (en horen).

  • you can´t compare your old and nice fiero with the mrs, there are different things.

  • Maybe, but the older MR2 Mk2 will smoke your Z3, even the non-turbocharged version. It also looks better than the Z3 coz it looks like a mini- Testarossa

  • @shad0wshrew This MR2 is better in handling and much lighter than the MX-5 (excluding the 1st gen which is only 100lbs less than this one. All others weight more). Everyone who owns MX-5 that were track ready who moved to the MR2 Spyder found to have improved by 1+ seconds on their time. LSD would help which was optional from 2004+ on these cars, and I high recommend a 2zz because the 1zz lacks power the most.

  • @happy543210 Yes, your right. I've never had a tire killer like that before. But i think it's a problem of my driving behaviors itself not of the camber setting... If the car offers you to take corners pretty fast you will get used to it for sure... Maybe it would be possible to get a minimum of 80k kilometers with a set of tires if the driver goes a littlebit more gentle, but the pleasure of driving would be gone.

  • @RedMR2W3 You reminded me of another problem! The MR2 has great cornering ability because of it's extreme camber settings. My car's four tires wore out prematurely on the inside and required replacement at around 40k because of this factory setting.

  • @happy543210 The problem with the Camry engine is, that they would have even more problems to fit it into the back of the car and heat would be a much bigger point to the engine as it is now anyway. But I'm totally with you on that lack of power...

  • @shad0wshrew If you are single or your partner has his/her own car then the MR2 is a good car. You have to consider that the MR2 doesn't have a very big trunk but performance and economy is better on the MR2 and they are about even in insurance... So if you can live with never being able to not smile, you can buy the MR2 ;) Got one myself, and i never wanna have an other car ever again!!

  • would this be a good first car or would the mx5 be better in both performance, ecomany and insurance

  • the miata looks better

  • @happy543210

Kom op, ... It's not made to outpower other cars, it's made to "outCORNER" other car's! I always celebrate understeering of the moron's who try to follow me in sharper corners ....XD

  • @happy543210

I agree but, I'd prefer the 2ZZ corolla XRS engine anyday over the 2.4l camry if anything. I don't have an MR2 but do own a 2zz. It's quite fun.

  • I owned a 2002 MR2 spyder and I had only one major complaint--it was UNDER POWERED. Instead of the Corolla engine (1.8 liter), they should have used the Camry engine (2.4 liter). Then, I'd be singing a different tune.
