Music taken from: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvLZBlCgatw

From Wikipedia:

The song was recorded on 18 October 1965, and was complete except for the instrumental bridge.
At that time, Lennon had not decided what instrument to use, but he subsequently asked George Martin to play a piano solo, suggesting "something Baroque-sounding". Martin wrote a Bach-influenced piece that he found he could not play at the song's tempo. On 22 October, the solo was recorded at half-tempo (one octave lower) and tape speed was doubled for the final recording, solving the performance challenge and giving the piano solo a unique, harpsichord-like timbre.

I do not own The Beatles.

  • Do you know which bach composition inspired this tune?

  • @MunisAwesome No I do not; I think it was just inspired by the baroque period overall.

  • Thanks! I've always wanted to hear this.

  • @panchobehrmann As did I and I figured many other did too, so I uploaded it. Thanks for the comment!

  • thnks for this... i love how it was played half the speed and then sped up to gwt tht sound

  • @spacecowboy7580 Even the sped up version didn't sound like Mellotron, he recorded it on piano, then they sped it up to sound like a Harpsichord, mission accomplished in my opinion :)

  • I used to do this with the album by sloing it down from 33 1/3 RPM tp 16 RPM and also on reel to reel from 15 ips to 7 1/2. Fun stuff.

  • @spacecowboy7580 Mellotron was the beginning of Strawberry Fields Forever. This was a piano, but sounds like a harpsichord

  • It wasn't a piano..it was a mellotron.

  • i dont know the story, but as an audio engineer... sounds like it may be true..first part sounds like it was sped up.. that trill at 0:04 before goes up the scale.. that is definition of BPM change.. it just doesnt sound natural.. u know? but who knows..maybe it was real... midi was not around then..
